Dime Day: Playoff Primer

Description Time to look ahead to the fantasy playoffs! Although there is definitely a luck factor in head-to-head play, these leagues are a lot of fun. This primer assumes your weekly match-up starts on the Monday of the week, and ends on the Sunday. In Yahoo! leagues, the h2h playoffs start during Week 22, March 26-April 1. These leagues also tend to extend championship week to include the few days at the end of the season. So below, you will see a “Week 24+” designation, which includes games to be played between April 9th and April 18th.

Use this primer to evaluate your current roster and each player’s fantasy playoff schedule. Manipulating the number of games played in each playoff week could be the edge you need to win your fantasy league. Is Lebron the guy to bring you the bling-bling? Check it out below to find out!

Dime Day: Pity Party

Posted by Alvin Lai Categories: Disses, H2H, Site Features, Talent,

Lebron vs. Jason KiddThank goodness for the Super Bowl. If you are having a tough year in your main fantasy basketball league like I am, maybe you welcome the distraction as well. After being inspired by Sarge’s one man rant on Eric Snow, I figured I would throw myself a pity party. Because I am in need of a new hobby to relax from my main hobby after the events of the last few weeks especially. So what’s been going on, you ask? If you are willing to be my Frasier, I am happy to take advantage of your listening skills.

If you are hoops junkie, you have more than a few fantasy teams. But one league usually stands out as the one that matters the most. And for me, this is the league that is kicking me to the curb right now.

1. My match-up of the week tends to light up every time, but just against me.

It was week 14 and my opponent sports Jason Kidd on his roster. I was in the playoff mix going into the week, and by the next Monday, I was on the outs looking in. Kidd did more than his fair share, dropping in triple doubles like there was no tomorrow. So what does he do this week when I need him to knock down a playoff contender for me? You guessed it: games of zero points/five turnovers, and a two assist game before that.

Dime Day: Dropping Dimes All-Star Team

Posted by Alvin Lai Categories: Editorial, H2H, Props, Roto, Site Features, Talent,

Nate sucka RobinsonAs the all-star break approaches, are you not worried about how many times we will have to watch Nate Robinson attempt his dunk this year? Well, me too, but let’s focus our attention on players more deserving of all-star talk.

Imagine you decided to go Marty McFly, and travel back in time to rewrite your fantasy league’s history. In preparation you pulled a fast one on your league mates, trading future considerations for picks so that you own the first 13 picks of the draft (I know, I know, any league that would let this happen would be dumber than a brick, but bear with me). Who do you pick to make an unstoppable team?

I posed this question to my boys here at Dropping Dimes in an effort to change things up a bit. The mid-season awards are being handed out, and it’s too easy to just list the top ranked players on Yahoo. Now granted, the best players will always come out as being must-have commodities in almost any format you could dream up. I figured with the structure of this actually being a team and using the current season’s stats, the exercise would lead to some interesting discussion…and it did. Thanks to D, Sarge and Ron for their input.

My hands are disappearing as I strum the riff to “Johnny B. Goode” so we better get this thing going. Ladies and gentlemen, here is our “perfect” draft. I tried to talk Doc Brown into letting us take a glimpse at the final season statistics, but he mumbled something about this causing too much damage to the space-time continuum so we’ll just have to speculate how the second half is going to go.

Dropping Dimes Staff Rankings - Week 14

Posted by Alvin Lai Categories: H2H, Props, Roto, Site Features,

Heading up the weekly rankings is like doing monitor duty for the Justice League. It’s not sexy, but it has to be done. And maybe if we do right, it will help you steer clear of danger in the upcoming week. Shaq is back just in time to receive yet another all-star starting nod. Of course his rep in fantasy hoops does not match his bigger than life persona. Keep an eye on the most important toe in the world this week…as of this writing, Lebron James is sitting out the game on Friday, January 26th.

Teams and Number of Games for the Week:

Atlanta Hawks - 4; Boston Celtics - 3; Charlotte Bobcats - 4; Chicago Bulls - 3; Cleveland Cavaliers - 4; Dallas Mavericks - 3; Denver Nuggets - 4; Detroit Pistons - 4; Golden State Warriors - 4; Houston Rockets - 3; Indiana Pacers - 3; Los Angeles Clippers - 3; Los Angeles Lakers - 4; Memphis Grizzlies - 3; Miami Heat - 3; Milwaukee Bucks - 4; Minnesota Timberwolves - 4; New Jersey Nets - 4; New Orleans Hornets - 4; New York Knicks - 3; Orlando Magic - 4; Philadelphia 76ers - 3; Phoenix Suns - 3; Portland Trail Blazers - 4; Sacramento Kings - 3; San Antonio Spurs - 2; Seattle Supersonics - 3; Toronto Raptors - 3; Utah Jazz - 3; Washington Wizards – 3

Dropping Dimes Week Eleven Position Rankings

Posted by Dennis Velasco Categories: H2H, Props, Roto, Site Features, Talent,

The new year has come and it’s about that time to seriously assess your team going forward.  If you’re in the upper tier of your league, you’ll need to make sure you duplicate your efforts in 2007.  If you’re in the lower rungs of your league, it’s time to get busy and make some moves to get you into the playoffs because that’s what it’s all about.  Just get there!  Everything else will work itself out.

And, yes, I KNOW about all the injuries to superstars such as Yao Ming, Chris Paul, Paul Pierce, et al.  I’m playing a violin for you.  Just be quick to pick up their replacements if you think they can make an impact.  Dikembe Mutombo, Jannero Pargo, Tony Allen, and Gerald Green have upped their fantasy values significantly for the aforementioned injured players.  So, what else to do?  Well, obviously, read Sarge’s The Weekly Focus exclusively on HoopsHype.com and Wire to Wire on here and SI.com.  It helps… it really helps!

Oh, and pay attention to what you’re about to read… our position rankings for the upcoming week!  Note that the number in parentheses is the average position between those who chose - Sarge, Big Ron Stud, and myself.  Enjoy and be enlightened!

Teams and Number of Games for the Week:
